The 2026 Subaru WRX is built to perform—but is that just for fun, or can the Subaru WRX actually tow, as well? Understanding what this Subaru sport sedan can and can't do will help you figure out whether it's the right fit for your lifestyle here in Plattsburgh, New York. We’ll show you why the Subaru WRX is a Consumer Reports Recommended Vehicle. What Is the Subaru WRX Towing Capacity? The Subaru WRX towing capacity comes in at 2,000 lbs. when properly equipped. That number is worth putting in context. This is a performance-focused compact sports sedan, so while it isn't designed to haul heavy trailers or large boats, it can comfortably manage a small utility trailer, a lightweight camper, or a personal watercraft. If towing is a regular part of your routine, it helps to know this figure going in and knowing what you regularly tow—or if you push those limits. The WRX is engineered to deliver an exhilarating driving experience first—towing is a secondary capability rather than a primary strength. Unrivaled Performance The 2026 Subaru WRX runs on a turbocharged 2.4L engine producing 271 hp and 258 lbs.-ft. of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. That powertrain gives the WRX its reputation for sharp, responsive performance on the road. Standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with Active Torque Vectoring and Traction Control is included, which gives you balanced traction and stability whether you're on a dry highway or dealing with snowy winter roads. This system works continuously, and proactively to stabilize the WRX before slippage happens. But with its track-tuned suspension, you never sacrifice a supple, engaging drive. This vehicle’s DNA comes from 19 rally championships, and that speaks to how trusted it is. For drivers in Plattsburgh, NY, who want a fun-to-drive vehicle that handles well year-round, this sedan defies expectations. Is the WRX the Right Choice for You? If your primary need is towing capacity, there are other vehicles in the Subaru lineup, like the Ascent or Outback, that are better suited for pulling heavier loads. But if you want a Subaru sedan that delivers thrilling performance, everyday practicality, and advanced all-wheel-drive confidence unlike anything else on the road, the 2026 Subaru WRX is a strong contender.
